A New Technology Means Faster Access to Videos

A codec is a compression container that reduces the size of a video so it’s easier to open and watch. An uncompressed video looks beautiful, but the files are gigantic. The files simply have to be reduced, and the trick is to retain as much quality as possible.
Technology has come a long way in getting file sizes really small while still retaining quality, through the use of H264 Codec. Moreover, the new H265 will lower the cost for hosting a video. Let’s say a content developer hosts bandwidth charging $2.50 per gigabyte, and the video you want hosted is one gigabyte. If you reduce the video file by half, to 500 megabytes, the bandwidth cost will also be cut in half.
Another result of H265 is that consumption of videos on mobile networks will skyrocket. 3G networks on phones will push video exceptionally quickly because the file sizes will be so much smaller. Even people who live in a remote location without a 3G network, or who otherwise have a slow internet connection, will have easier access to videos.
In short, the new H265 codec, by allowing easier and faster access, will mean more people consuming video on a regular basis. For business or advertising purposes, this translates into an explosive demand for videos.
