The Doggie Pill
Any Delta flyers out there? I love flying, and I love flying Delta.
If you’ve been on any Delta flights in the last year or two you may have noticed the renovated safety videos. You know that safety demonstration that they give at the beginning of every flight. We’ve heard it over and over again, but Delta put a new twist on it. They produced a video that brought creativity and humor to an otherwise boring and largely ignored presentation. They’ve done such a good job that people are sharing them outside of airplane cabins.
I can’t think of any other time when I’ve actively searched online for a safety video for sheer entertainment value. They broke the mentality of “we have to create a stuffy safety video because….it’s a safety video involving the FAA and other regulation.” They asked themselves “why not” and tried it. It seems like they create an updated video once a quarter. They even created special Christmas and 80s versions. Hey, if we have to swallow a pill… at least wrap it with some bacon. Delta has had a great success with this reaping a couple million views for some inflight safety videos, picked up PR, and have engaged loads of passengers and online viewers.
A lot of the time organizations feel this pressure to keep with the status quo – out of fear – fear that it’ll be “too out there,” so they stick to what has been done forever before them, doing the same thing over and over again gets you the exact same results every time. The lesson here is to push the boundaries, push the creativity and bring on the bacon – it ‘ll surely help you bring it home.
If you haven’t watched it, you can take a look at it here.
Great job Delta.
